There will ALWAYS be Nationals that not everyone can or will go to. It doesn't matter if it is East West or Central or if it is a single site, or three.... One of our missions is to PROMOTE the breed. How are we doing that by limiting sites? Also by keeping our Nationals "centralized" (for whom?) we are skewing the use of and genetics of the very breed. If mostly stud dogs from a single area or region are in attendance and visible , then those dogs will have a greater impact on the breed. NOT GOOD. It adversely affects the diversity of the breed, a problem we are starting to see already with genetic "bottlenecking" that is going on, esp in some lines. There may well be GLORIOUS representatives of the breed that have never been to a national because they are on one coast or the other, or in one corner of the country or the others. If the National is rotated to the nine Futurity regions (in an opposing fashion, for instance opposite corners, etc) then at least every couple of years people will have a good shot at making it to a National that is CLOSE to them. Fair is fair. If there are particularly great sites, like Ft Collins for instance that is wonderful. LETS DO IT...but when it comes into THAT region...not in lieu of others. Same with St Louis, Perry, etc....great sites but not a "go to" when other regions have not had a National in years...if at all. If the North American Sieger Show can find good venues , whos entries and spectators far exceed ours, if I am not mistaken...then I think what is left of our club can find something suitable. The NASS was held OUTDOORS in November of 2001..at a beautiful venue (think amphitheatre seating) grass, stalls and plenty of room for doublers, families etc right at or in the ring. A grandstand on three sides? and an announcers stand overlooking it. Why is it we are so hard pressed as a club to find and use fairgrounds ? Why are we, as a club so reluctant to want to hold it in the nine regions? Also why not take advantage of the West Coast's and Southwests GORGEOUS November weather and have it outside???
