Evaluation of new trends should be qualified not only by cosmetic applications, but by genetic implications as well. Thus, faults which are of an inheritable nature should be penalized far more severely than those which are transient". I can't argue with that.>>>>>>>>>>> Nice job Ileana, Temperament IS genetic, as genetic as coat color, height , drive, work ethic.......I can take a dog that won't herd (although I would prefer it did) I can take a dog that wont do a heel pattern, I can take a dog that wont do a weave pole.....those are individual issues, not mentioned in our Standard by name. Personally, I like to think and we strive to use dogs that give us good work ethic, and the athletic ability to do many jobs....but I digress.... TEMPERAMENT, CHARACTER ARE an integral part of the standard, and what makes a good GSD, so we should be vigilant, and ever striving to improve same...not just satisfied with getting by and oh well some "slipped through"..... When you ask John Q Public who dreamily remembers a GSD of childhood, it is overwhelmingly the TEMPERAMENT, AND CHARACTER, that is the hallmark of that memory, that fondness for the dog. Second only to breedtype. I can NEVER recall a person (John Q. ) saying to me, "Oh yeah we had a GSD years ago....boy could that sucker sidegait....we didn't even mind that he was a nervous wreck" LOLOLOL.. We are one of the few countries that doesn't require MORE of its top conformation dogs, it top representatives for the given year. We (collectively) seem to want to rest on the laurels of well...it passed enough to make a champion under 3 judges.....or we can't be bothered , or surely judges would never put up a spooky / nervous dog, and surely breeders would never breed to an unstable animal???? Then we wake up. If nobody is breeding to dogs of faulty temperament, and the some owners aren't entering them, and the some judges aren't putting them up......then where do they come from?????? And why wouldn't we want to eliminate the dogs (that apparently don't exist, ) from contention for top honors at our top show? What are we afraid of?????"?"?"?"??
