Having been away from the breed for awhile, I was anxious to see what
kinds of dogs have been winning in the breed ring lately. All of this
that I say (as in all of my writings, are JUST MY OPINION - not asking
anyone else to agree with it). This is what I walked away with:

95% of what wins today is TYPE. The other 5% is MOVEMENT. Ideally,
we'd like to have the WHOLE package.....type, movement and of course
temperament. Temperament, by the way, I believe was overall excellent.
The breeders have done a very good job here. All those years ago when I
was showing and breeding, I had acquired my requirements to apply for my
judging license. That was my next goal in the breed. Then divorce
changed that. Anyone who knows me well enough, knows I'm a movement
"NUT" and side gait and shoulder is very important to me. Hey, it's
what I owned, so it's what my eye can pick out time and time again.
Movement would always be in the front of my class............naturally
with the whole package being in consideration.

STUD DOG CLASS: Did you ever see more of a pretty package of breed type
than the Dallas class? They were all very consistent in type. This is
certainly a dog who improves breed type. By the way, if I'm correct, he
produced 5 of this years Select bitches!

JUDGING: I won't name the dog's names as I know that's frowned upon on
this List, so I'll just name the classes they were in so you can look it
up for yourself. I didn't get there until Thursday morning so missed
the puppies and futurity/Maturity finals. Also, I really wanted to see
more of the bitch judging to see what Debbie liked, but for some reason,
this is when I was busy socializing and didn't get to see too much of
it. So the only thing that I know about this woman's judging is that
she put up a (IMO) fantastic moving sidegaiting dog with the very much
needed shoulder which is truly lacking today - her Futurity Victor.

DOGS: Barbara Amidon who is an icon of the breed, ALWAYS had complete
control of her ring. Barbara was going to do what she was going to do.
She knew what she liked and would find it all the time. I know she
likes the whole package, but really loves a beautiful typey dog and she
didn't disappoint in this regard. Her winners dog.......well you
couldn't ask for more breed type. Her reserve winners dog.....OMG, what
a mover! She and I talked quite a bit about her choices and why she
chose the ones she did. I understood her completely. Although, as in
all the judges classes, we all might have changed one or two here or
there. She was a pleasure to watch.

INTER SEX: Naturally, everyone had something to say about this
class......the most important in the show. For the most part, I could
follow what Ken was doing. Most of them were similar in type, but
different in movement with the exception of his Grand Victrix. His
Grand Victrix was completely different than the rest of his Select
bitches. He had a great bitch entry to choose from. His males, well I
must say, I was a bit prejudice because I own a daughter out of the
Grand Victor. He is a good representative of the breed. The VETERAN
dog.......another OMG.......what a mover! It was great that this guy
went Select, produced the Grand Victrix, produced another Select dog and
also the Reserve winners dog. How's that for something to be proud of?!

As I said before, I might have changed a few here or there, but that's
only my opinion. I am happy for all the winners and congratulate all of
you and also for those that didn't win, you still can feel proud that
they were good enough to make it to the National level. I am thrilled
beyond words for my friends who won........Lorraine Cohen for her Select
# 2 bitch, to Ken Tank for his marvelous job of handling her, to my very
dear friend Marilyn Smith and Karyn for their exceptional moving
Futurity Victor and Leslie for her presentation of him. A very special
congratulations to Olivia Calabrese for showing her heart out in the
Specials class........watch out Leslie, Iza for her Maturity Victrix,
and to my new friend Terri who's young male placed in the American bred
dog class. to be
continued......................Barbara Galasso
