Though many people swear by his methods, I always had a vague sense that
something wasn't quite right about some of it, especially giving a dog a

kicking a dog for any reason, other than to fend off an outright Attack, is
morally
reprehensible and cannot be justified. Nor can overwhelming a dog with the
thing(s) he fears. I have never had to do any of these things to any of my
dogs to get them to obey me; I use Love and Praise instead.

Hi Steve,

I don't think he advocates "kicking". Instead, it is touching the dog with
his right foot behind him (dog on the left) to break the dog's attention.
The timing has to be just right. If I am speaking to you, you may or may not
be focusing on what I'm saying, for example, but if I get in your space, so to
speak, and touch you on the shoulder, for that split second, I'll be more
likely to get your undivided attention.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of dogs with issues out there, and doggy
behaviorist only get called as the last resort. You can love and praise all
you
want, but when you are dealing with a contest of wills it only goes so far.
Unfortunately, only so much can be put in a TV segment, but overall, I think
his methods are sound and may help the average "Joe" who has lost control, or
who perhaps never had it.

It never ceases to amaze me what dogs can be a surrogate for. (And the dogs
suffer for it.) At least he isn't into shock collars and rolling around on
the floor with them! And....I don't have a treadmill, but I don't have a
problem with letting them get tired before something they don't like, or maybe
something they like too much, lol. In fact, when I have one that gets too
strong in the ring, I'll let them out in the AM before a show so they can run
some of their "badness" off and go easy! And I've thrown many a tennis ball
before going in the ring w/ sheepies:)
