There are better dogs that herd, there are better dogs that guard, there are
better dogs that work search and rescue; but there is no breed that does it
all as well as a German shepherd. The German shepherd has always been in the
top five dogs for popularity. This is due to the dog's ability to fill in
societies needs in so many ways. There are house pets, yard dogs, conformation,
obedience, herding, protection, dogs leading the blind, hearing dogs,
companion dogs, dogs living in apartments, on large farms, in homes, office
buildings, and small lots. The one dog that fits in all of those situations
is the
German shepherd.
History has proven the ability of the German shepherd to fill in where
needed, to be available when asked, and to accept the role requested, no matter
what. Because of that, it remains one of the most popular breeds in the
world.
Popularity follows function. No more so than with the German shepherd.
