Has your vet suggested doing a necropsy on one of the puppies? Have you
ruled out Herpes? Has the Mom's milk been tested?
We had a similar think happen to us with our ROM bitch with several litters,
not just one. Babies were born, healthy, vibrant, then one by one they
faded on me. One vet told me is was Herpes. I said no, it was not. We did
test
Mom and she came back negative, so that ruled out Herpes. To make a long
story short, it turned out to be an E coli infection. Mom had it and babies
were all fine until they passed thru the birth cannel. They, one by one,
died.
We tried everything. Necropsies would come back with no findings. We
tried treating Mom for E coli "before" she had her puppies so that when she
gave
birth, they would be ok. Sounded like a great plan, however, it did not
work, her E coli infection was resistant to the drug she was treated with.
(and
yes we did a sensitivity panel and the infection was supposed to be
sensitive to this drug) Her last litter she had 7, we were down to 3 with no
answers.
I called Scottie Sherlock and she told me to do a very radical treatment.
To give the babies indictable Baytril (if I could talk my vet into it) for 3
days. I told my vet what she had said and since he had no other answers and
could not save the babies, I got the Baytril. We saved 2 out of the 3
babies. One of those babies that made it is, Ch. JaDon's Weekend Rendezvous.
One note to this. I have seen E coli on some of our cultures before doing
breedings on other bitches, but Haley's was unique. It was resistant to most
drugs.
One follow up on this sad story, is that none of her progeny had this
problem. It was unique to Haley.
