I had a client come in, who wanted me to review her My Space page. To do
that, she had to invite me to the page, sign me in, and then show me how to
get to the page. I looked it over, and shut off the computer.
Since that time, I have now had 142 invitations to join a My Space page.
Now, I don't want to sound elistist, or mean, but I just don't want to be
that public. I have no desire to make my thoughts known, and I sure don't
want to be a member of something over which I have no control.
I have a deep fear that if I respond, even to decline the invitation, I
will in some way be dragged into the modern era, and be stuck forever in the
world of the internet. So, I just keep deleting them. It is nothing
personal, and I admit to being fond of most of those who invite me, but it
is just
not my thing. I am sorry for not responding, but every time I get another
invitation I remember the last time I looked someone up.
A few years ago I had a client, a top female television newcaster here in
Los Angeles. She was married to a man who then took up with an ex-Laker's
cheerleader. My client said I should know who she was, so I looked her up
on line, then went to her home page. It directed me to her "personal"
information and I found myself on a very pornographic location. I tried to
leave, and it sent me to an even more obscene page, and then my computer
started
to take me to places I had never gone before, and didn't want to be. I
couldn't find a way out, and finally had to unplug my computer. I know that
is
all there somewhere. For months I waited for the know on the door from the
smut police.
Now I do not open attachments, I do not join My Space, Facebook, Twitter,
or anything that asks me to enlarge a body part, clean an internal organ, or
meet strangers. It is nothing personal.
Dogs I like. The rest I will leave to the young people who understand
Sexting.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
