I certainly don't disagree...I do suppose it is one of the pitfalls of my
personality. I do see many good things at shows, but when people ask why
entries
are falling, and why there are no new young people, I answer honestly.
I try and take my younger friends to shows, but they're not interested in
seeing dogs run in circles. They like watching the excitement of agility, or
the
teamwork of obedience. I'm trying my best to get Austin his Vizsla, and he
could be signing on to her by next week. She's not finished, but I've handled
her, and gotten compliments on her...she's a nice bitch, just needs to fill
out.

It's a friend's dog, who is happy to let Austin and I ride to shows with her
so he can show in juniors. We can't afford to buy him another dog, and my
Corgi wouldn't be ready for juniors in time to keep him interested. He likes
dog
sports...all of them. He's starting to come to club with me to watch
agility, but will have to wait until summer until I can take him to my
conformation
class. Until then, he's learning how to do down and backs and triangles, and t
and l patterns at home, with his Labrador.

He's learning how to freestack, and bait, how to groom and clean teeth, how
to dremel nails and wash out ears and get rid of eye goobers. He's learning
how to properly place feet and use the lead. He's also 9 years old just last
month, and can just now start showing. His first show will likely be this
summer, and he'll also be running a dog in agility, probably a Sheltie of the
same
woman that owns the Vizsla.

I'd love to have him try his hand at Strauss, but Strauss is just too high
octane for a young handler, and would likely discourage him. His Labrador
doesn't have enough training to do agility yet.

I have an appointment at my former high school in the next couple of weeks to
talk to a couple of classes about the sport of dogs. How many would be
interested, who knows, but it's a start.
