My dad served for 7 years during WWII

He went intothe Navy and after boot camp was transfered to the Coast Guard and 
then the 
merchant Marines.  He was in the Pacific corridor where he had his head phones 
blow off his 
head and it left him functionally deaf.  

He died on March 17, 2007 of leukemia due to asbestos exposure etc during his 
service

He became a Veteran of WWII only a few years before his death
