My neighbor's yard was overgrown in hollyhocks. I laughe at her because she could not get rid of them. She tried to get even by shaking the seed pods all over the yard. However, most hollyhocks will bloom the same year if planted early. My husbands' grandmother grew them and they always bring forth warm feelings of family and quiet peace. They are one of the most beautiful and showy flowers in the old fashion cottage type gardens.
