First order of business is to be sure who the parents are. As I recall,
that post incorrectly named the wrong dog as sire. A subsequent post listed
the correct sire, who as I also remember, had DM.
Second order of business is to be sure it's really DM. There are other
spinal issues with some of the some symptoms but are not DM.
There are a lot of articles out there on DM and mode of inheritance. For
every article I put into the Red Book on a health issue, I probably read
dozens of others on the same health issue in order to use the best article.
I have yet to find any articles proving the test results wrong.
However, in my own personal research of dogs tested (OFA listings and
personal knowledge of some dogs), the results seem to coincide with known DM
lines. Just like tracing back a black factor or coat factor in pedigrees, it
seems possible to trace back the DM factor and in some cases predict the
outcome of the test with accuracy.
