We actually got our first BC because my SON loved the breed. He wanted
one since he was 2 years old. We would go to training and he'd play with the
BCs. Don't get me wrong, I always liked the breed and thought that
eventually when the timing was right I would probably get one. I had worked
friends' BCs before and really liked them in herding, agility, & obedience. I
loved my Golden Retriever and may have another one some day, but the BCs do
ALL the sports that I like. They have an incredible desire to work but
the good ones also are easy to live with (our Golden was the most difficult
to live with....the BC truly is the easiest). My friend leased a bitch to
breed to her male who had a delightful temperament and the timing was right.
Originally my son was going to do agility with the BC and I was going to
herd with him, but Jim lost interest in competing (he wanted ME to train
the dog and then he would run him!). I think it's a great breed and do enjoy
the speed in agility and the other challenges in herding. I will always
have my German Shepherds, but I also can appreciate other breeds as well.
Even if I can't ever run agility again, I would have a BC as well as the
GSDs.
