I know MANY handlers in the East--not one is a millionaire. In a struggling economy, I bet that handlers are struggling like everyone else. Why is it that when money is mentioned, people invariably go to the handlers for a solution, blame, etc? Handlers make a living--I trust my dogs to them. They work while taking care of my dogs while I work, teaching kids in school. Even if I had the athletic ability to do it, the schedule of a handler's life is not one that I would want--they have to be ON, 24-7: feeding, exercising, bathing, grooming, training, answering clients' (many) phone calls, traveling, exhibiting, packing up and doing it all again at the next show or the next weekend--all so my dogs can have a shot at the pie in the sky! No thanks! I couldn't do it, but I thank GOD that handlers CAN and DO, every day of the week. If added revenue is needed for failing clubs, why not ask the dog food companies, the entry services, the AKC--all of whom make megabucks on our furry friends. Leave the handlers alone. AMEN. Happy Easter--I am off to a dog show, where my handler has given up his Easter Sunday to show my dog and others! Elvis has left the building.
