That's true. I received a call from a friend, who while at work, received a
call from a shelter that her dog had been hit by a car. This was a dog she
owned on a co-ownership several towns away. The co-owners were not at home
during the day and my friend couldn't reach them. Since I worked from home I
was prepared to dash up, get the dog and run to the vets. I asked her to fax
something to the shelter anticipating I'd need something to get out of there
with the dog. BUT, because the county license/rabies tags were in a different
name, even though the microchip was in my friend's name, they wouldn't
release the dog. The dog had to wait at the shelter until the co-owners who
had
licensed the dog came home from work, and the shelter considered who the dog
actually lived with as the "owner".
