I remember at the National one year, when we rode about ten life time
members in a cart around the ring. I rode to help the older folks. I try not
to think about that now, I think most if not all of them are gone.
I remember Bob Penny and Helen Fisher. I remember handling against Bob in
my youth, with Jerry Graham, LanaLee Jorguson, Gail Sprock, and so many
others.
I remember one time when in the Open class of 19, Gail was in front, and I
was second. As we stacked I said to Gail: "What do I need to do to beat
you?"
Without a pause she responded, "Let your dog out earlier, and slow him
down."
I was kidding, she was not.
After she got the position of Review Editor, Gail called me. In that
monotone that only she had, she said; "I want to thank you for working so
hard
to get me that assignment."
I replied; "No need to thank me, I can hear the excitement in your voice."
You had to know Gail to realize how funny that was.
