I'm not sure Americans know that today [Monday], Oct 10th is Canada's
Thanksgiving Day. Many take their vacays Friday to Tues for an extra long
weekend. But it's smack dab on top of the National.

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Many won't be there~ 'Our' National?
I don't really know...but it appears to me that the Parent Club Board is pretty
happy with the 'status quo' of the site in St. Louis and really
seems to believe most of us will "adjust". I am concerned they are not looking
at the big picture of this poor decision. Possibly , since
they get a pretty healthy entry of 300 at the Sieger Show in St. Louis might
think that this entry will help re-coup what they will lose
with some unhappy exhibitors from the West and even the East, that are unhappy
with the NON ROTATING site staying in St. Louis.
Most of these members are the Breeder/ Exhibitors and hard working members of
local Specialty Clubs as well as dues paying members
of the GSDCA, Inc. They are the very backbone of the GSDCA, Inc. While the
Sieger Show entry seems great....remember that these
shows are not being held all over the Country at the numbers that our specialty
shows and even All Breed shows are being held;
so NATURALLY this Event will draw a big entry for them at the National. But it
will never be enough to support and maintain the Health
and strength of our GSDCA, Inc. like our American breeders and American bred
German Shepherd Dogs.
IMO when the GSDCA begins to lose members, so will many of the Specialty Clubs,
and when these fail, the GSDCA.Inc. and the Breed
will begin to fail. The Specialty Clubs pay dues to the Parent Club. When they
fail....the Parent Club will lose even more income.
It absolutely amazes me that some on the Board of our Parent Club do not seem
more concerned about the possible loss of the
exhibitors and breede r members that ARE OUR NATIONAL.
Sure, there are some that will maintain the entry for a while as they leave it
up to the handlers to get their dogs to St. Louis..... and they
can fly in. B ut there are not enough to maintain the strength of the Parent
Club or the Breed for any length of time like all of the
breeders and exhibitors from all over the Country that have to depend on their
own capabilities to travel with dogs to the National.

There seems to be a lot of this going on this year. I think the attitude of the
club, (read the board),
has a lot to do with it. Somehow the sacrifice isn't worth it.
I did think of not going, and except that it is one week out of the year I leave
the office, I wouldn't do it.
I hope to see a number of people there this year, but many will be missed.
