I have (sadly) found that there must be a number of breeders breeding
sport/protection dogs who have let their breeding programs suffer by using
temperamentally unsound animals for breeding. I see way way way too many
unstable dogs that people paid $2500-5000for a "German- Bred Protection Dog"
that have to live in a back-yard pen b/c the family was afraid for their
children not trusting it wholly.or is flat out given away or turned into a
shelter for "temperament issues" IOW- euthanise the dog. It bites. Or that are
falling apart with ED (especially) and HD (because a "noch zuglassen" is
basically equivalent to mild HD...) at very young ages- well before 12 months
old.
Many of these puppies are purchased with the intent on IPO training, and they
just don't make the cut for a variety of reasons.
I don't understand how people (breeders) don't consider-say at least 50% -their
puppies are going to live in home settings, usually with a family and then
breed dogs so hot, intolerant, and persistent, that they are unmanageable
unless in expert hands. Lets face it, expert dog handlers ain't most of
American Joe Public & family. It seems there are less and less who consider
that point when breeding their dog/s even in my short lifetime- but at least I
can say there are at least those good breeders (well of any & all GSD types)
who take at heart the pros and cons of a dog and when necessary, scrap that dog
from the program. Sometimes it hurts, with so much invested for that animal to
be, but if there's something you as the individual know is blatantly bad about
your dog (whether temperament, genetics, whatever) shouldn't it be the
responsible-breeder thing not to pass that on into the gene pool- not only for
the breed but the future "insert bad problem here" of your own bloodline?
JMHO but I don't get the point of having any dog as a pet so "on" 100% of the
time that I keep it in a kennel. Kinda defeats the purpose to me, but I do the
house pet thing -wait let me convey that correctly- I do the show/breed thing
with my house pets. It's part of why I have them- a healthy hobby. Gotta spend
what little money I do have on something...!

Jen P & the Pack wanting to know is how to get $5K people pay per pet puppy and
quintuple my income from every litter. I ain't out the hole on this last litter
(but I do have a puppy :)... If its just about the colour of the papers I'll
go get some RIT Dye! LOL but really
