I would have to agree with you Dave...these Malinois in Washington were scary.
One in training almost ripped my knee open...tried like hell to feed it the
sleeve. Finally knocked it in the head...the officer was too far away to
control him. He took the sleeve. LOVED running the dogs! Angela Scott

We breed to certain dogs and certain lines, both for health and temperament.
That betrays our belief that not everything is environment and training.
Much of our dogs behavior is in the genes. I love to watch the puppy exhibit
the behavior and quirks of the parent - it is amazing how their genetic
components work.
Years ago the police department I serves on got three gsds from
Czechoslovakia - "they were the best for police work," our Chief was told.
(did I spell that right?) Three weeks later they sent them back - biting the
handlers, their wives, kids, neighbors, cats, trees, fence - NO OFF SWITCH!
More recently our local S.O. got three Mals from somewhere in dream land and
same problem. Training modifies and directs behavior but it does not replace
bad genes.
Just my take on it, but what should I know!

I would agree with it being a "training issue" most of the time.
Obviously some dogs are going to be harder to train on quitting
something they love to do ...AND have been encouraged to do.
But their love of the work is what makes them valuable. Not much
different in Herding, releasing the Ball...the Bird...the bite...<G>
I CAN see it being a specific 'Breed' problem also....as in Rotties.
Biting its own trainer in its frenzy though...THAT is a serious issue!!
Either way~I sure didn't think the dog was "pure" Malinois, NOR GSD. <G>
