Hi Ginny.....and Bob;
A bitch that appears to not conceive or does reabsorb the litter...... very
VERY often has
myco plasma!! There are no symptoms for myco plasma other than a bitch that
never
gets pregnant it seems.......or she is aborting or reabsorbing the litters.
I would have the bitch tested for myco plasma first
then Thyroid,
then if both are normal... Progesterone levels after breeding.

Malabsorption is a generic term for incomplete digestion of food which can
be caused by various disease conditions. Sometimes it is discussed as
Malabsorption Syndrome which is a reference to the symptoms of bloating,
gas,
passing large quantities of stool, and greasy looking stool. When dealing
with
it--the vet will ordinarily do the rule out tests for Pancreatic
Insufficiency
and Irritable Bowel Syndrome and not finding anything definitive might just
be
left with calling it "Malabsorption Syndrome" All that is off the top of
my head -- I could do some research but that calls for more time:-)

I have only heard of reabsorption as it relates to a bitch reabsorbing
puppies--for which there are many causes -- insufficient levels of
progesterone
and uterine infection are two that come to mind. If you have a bitch that
is
doing this you might need to go to a canine reproductive specialist to get
her
worked up--I had a select bitch that never did have puppies because she
reabsorbed them at about 5 weeks (right after we could determine that she
was in
whelp--wouldn't you know) Spent quite a bit of money and tried all kinds of
treatment none of which worked. It is a longer story than that but -- there
it is
