I certainly do agree with this. Many things have changed over the years. I
don't think in general that people have finished a lot more dogs than they
did 10 or 20 years ago, other than it takes less dogs for a major. Look at
the point system in all regions, they are way down from what they used to
be. Once upon a time a open class often had an entry equal to a 3 or more
point major of today.
There are majors being built often these days at all breeds. Some all breed
clubs accommodate the entry by giving the exhibitors a decent sized ring and
a judge who will appreciate the GSD. That certainly is a plus from what it
used to be, majors at all breeds were few and far between in past years.
I do think that entering a show hoping for a major takes $$ and exhibitors
personal decision to stay home if the entry isn't big enough. I don't agree
with taking unneeded single points, over and over again.
On the other hand a great moving GSD needs the big ring, the specialty judge
to finish with all majors. I don't think in that instance that doing this is
taking a major away from another dog. A good one will finish, where ever,
when ever. But there is no sense in accumulating 15 or more single points.
