I have had a couple of situations where I needed anywhere from 3-5 single
points to finish a dog that had both majors. In one case..I had a dog that
needed 5 single points..we entered him in a 5 point major show..he won the
major and it finished him..plus I got "more bang for my buck.." Why should
I pay 5 times the amount to a handler, plus spend more in expenses when the
dog can potentially win 5 points for the price of one??? Recently we had a
young dog finish and it got back to the owner that others were griping that
the dog only needed singles and won the major. The win finished the dog with
all majors. Again, I don't see a problem with this..if the dog is good
enough to beat more as opposed to less competition..then he must be
deserving. On the flip side..I won't show a dog that needs a major at a
single or 2 point show. From strictly an economical standpoint..you end up
paying for the class..then the group..and winning a group is "iffy" at best
especially with an unknown Special. I am not saying it can't be done..but
it is the exception generally and not the rule. C.Grainger
