In Michigan on Saturday night we had a great Dinner and excellent speech by
Dave Rinke. I could listen to people like him, Fred Migliore, the Kish's,the
Ford's and the like, speak all day. So much wonderful thoughts on the
standard, showing the breed, and our Nationals. Those of us that attended the
dinner certainly came out of there with a better appreciation of our wonderful
breed. DAVE you're out there...I would love for you to take each one of your
topics, type them up and post them on the list...so many people would
benefit!GSD's, TOO!
Couple of thoughts to ponder...
Our breed...we should not ever breed faults to faults...i.e.. dragging toes to
dragging toes, shoulders are the hardest to get and easiest to lose, croup
should be same length as the width of the thigh, no Judge should ever take the
leash from a handler- this makes them in control of the dog- and the AKC along
with the Parent club has a video with the Temperament test on it- which seems
that ALLOT of our Judges - YES Specialty Judges- still don't do it right, we
are going to dwindle down to bare minimum if we keep at this rate for showing-
the Parent club bylaws states #1 it is for the German Shepherd dog and #2 it is
for the People that love this breed- so why are we increasing the costs at our
Nationals and also making it less accessible to those who show.
I agree 100% with Dave that we should NEVER charge for seating at our
Nationals, we should and could do the Nationals at any out door arena- our
breed loves the outdoors! Thankfully we did away with charging at the door and
showing membership cards!! If you want to become a Snobby Elitist Club then
charge $1500 for Sky boxes to watch the Nationals and put all the "poor folk"
on the "Floor" doing the work. Make the performance of the breed the #1 aspect
of our Nationals. Give the Doublers area to double the dogs. Cut down on all
these Ceremonies before the shows. Cut down on the days of the Nationals...3
days and done. I heard (Note-heard) that someone said the Nationals
Committee(?) feels that the Money from Entries for the Nationals are not
important, but that the Vendors are where they plan to make their money. Well,
if this is true, then make it FREE to show the dogs. Want to increase
entries??? put in there puppy classes at a cost of $5 per puppy, $12 for a
litter...You'll see more owner handlers getting out there with their dogs for
fun of it. What about giving cash for placings instead of silver bowls that
tarnish before you even get them home.. OR Since the Exhibitors are not SO
Important any more, perhaps we should only send entries to handlers...they'll
know who is able to afford to come to the Nationals.
COME on Folks. OPEN your EYES.... Quit with the Political Crap...Lets get back
to SHowing GOOD DOGS AND HAVING FUN AND WINNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
