I can't comment on raw food with bones. For over 40 yrs. I've fed high
protein, & med. to high fat content in kibble. Last year I had the first
infected anal gland. This year I have two dogs that are over 10yrs. old and
I'm treating them for peri-anal fistulas. My dogs all eat the same food and
always have. No diarrhea or soft stools. It does seems strange that I've had
very little problems at all, if your theory is correct.

One of the main causes of infected/impacted anal glands is a poor quality
high carbohydrate processed diet of chemically preserved food. This causes
toxins to build and they sit in the anal gland until eliminated. soft stools
are a major problem because when a dog poops , a hard stool squeezes and
empties the anal glands, soft stools many times don't get the job done.... Good
method of prevention? Yes you guessed it. A raw diet including bones. Good luck

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] MEDICAL ADVICE

We have a dog that has an infected anal gland not a fistula and hopefully
someone can give advice
She has been treated and the culture showed several bacteria that we treated
with appropriate antibiotics per culture
Still with infected fluid when the vet expresses her and he puts antibiotic
solution in the duct
Today we started on chloramphenicol orally
Any one with advice would be greatly appreciated
You can email directly to me or put on the list as I'm sure others will be
interested

Thanks
Morton
