[ SHOWGSD-L ] Loss of toenail sheath?

Had a recent phone inquiry from a Shepherd owner who is having a second dog
with this condition. The male is 4 years old and has lost the sheath first on
a front toe--month later on back toe. She is alarmed because she lost a bitch a
year ago to autoimmune (sp) condition began with toenail sheath loss. I've had
no experience in this (am knocking wood) an hope someone out there can give me
information. She told me that her vet had diagnosed a bacterial infection,
perscribed antibiotics --laterk when the meds did not work and other symptoms
appeared, the immune problem emerged. Margaret
