[ SHOWGSD-L ] Los Angeles plan to enforce licensing

Saw this on the news today. The L.A. City Council is meeting this week to
discuss plans of using the DWP database to identify homeowners with unlicensed
dogs. The DWP keeps a dog database for the safety of the meter readers. This
database will allow AC to check addresses for licensing compliance.
This just tans my hide. This isn't going to be just hitting you up for a
$15.00 license. AC is going to jump on this as a way to demand S/N
certificates for all dogs. They will demand fees and/or fines for intact
animals. People who can't/won't pay this will surrender their dogs or turn
them loose. The shelters will get overcrowded, more dogs will be euthanized
and the money they get won't come close to the money they will spend housing
and killing dogs.
I called my councilman's office this am and left a message about why this won't
work. Stormy, do you have the list of L.A. City Council members? Maybe they
need a call/fax. I think they are meeting today as Tues is normal meeting day
so it may be too late. But, worth a try.
