There aren't many I respect more than Carolyn in this sport...three GVs,
wonderful children and grandchildren, and she's married to Frank......but I
differ with her believing the board was attempting to  "lower the bar" by
considering a Long coat class......yes the standard says LONG COATS are a
fault...but when you look at length of coat objectively...length of coat has
nothing to do with what makes a good GSD...it does not effect movement,
temperament, structure, health, or workability...our standard is MAN
MADE.....one of my good friends in the sport called the standard a "moving
target"....and perhaps it is NOT logical to create a class based solely on a
"standard fault".........I like all the discussion about the subject...perhaps
NOW we will see long coats in the regular classes....like Dave said all the
classes are filled with dogs with faults...because the opposite of perfect is
imperfect...I requested and received my high school transcript...class of
1972...I plan to post my report card on the board in my class room and
challenge my students to out-do me........when I looked at my transcript I was
not happy to discover that my rank out of 406 students I was 122.....too many
girl-friends....lol...Ed Hill

Seems we are constantly falling into the mode of  'lowering the bar'  all the
time now.
Sure seems like a waste of time and trophies to me......as I sure don't know of
anyone
that keeps a long coat to show it.    Most keep them to breed for the
qualities they
might have that are needed in a breeding program.

We were all laughing about it today at a show......and decided there should be
a class
for dogs with more than 5 major Reserves also.     <G>

Wish more people had taken the survey.
I would think the standard of the breed should dictate some fair guidelines
to follow. A class for a fault somehow doesn't go there.
Cannot imagine, other than money, why the guardians of the standard, the
board,
would consider selling this breed short.   Glad there appears to be some
 sensibility on this list.   Molly

although  this was a very small sample size it seems clear that the members
on the list  are NOT in favor of the proposed LONG COAT  CLASS......
