I don't know the breed as of yet but this is relevent for our breed as well
as any breed that does Police Work. Please send your thought and prayers to
this dog's partner/handler. He is devastated.

Long Beach PD had a K-9 shot and killed last night. Our thoughts and prayers
go out to the handler, his family, Long Beach PD and K-9 unit. At this time
it is unknown when the funeral will be. Below are the details according to

LONG BEACH - Long Beach police officers today shot and killed a paroled gang
member who fired at them and fatally wounded a police dog, authorities said.
A Long Beach Police Department gang enforcement unit attempted to contact the
man for a routine search at his home about 11:15 p.m. yesterday but he fled
on foot, said Long Beach police Sgt. David Cannan.
During the foot chase that ensued in an alley, the suspect turned and fired
at officers, who fired back, Cannan said, adding that no one was hit in that
exchange.
The man managed to elude the pursuing officers and hid under the front porch
of a residence in the 1300 block of Cedar Avenue, Cannan said.
Once helicopter crews helped officers on the ground locate the suspect, a
perimeter was established and a SWAT team was brought in, Cannan said. The
suspect was ordered to come out but refused to comply, he said.
At around 2:50 a.m., a 4-year-old police dog named Ranger was sent to flush
the man out of his hideout, and the suspect shot him, Cannan said. The dog
later died.
After the man shot the dog, officers again opened fire, mortally wounding
him. He died at the scene, Cannan said.
Police said the man, on parole following a robbery conviction, was in his
20s. His name was not immediately released.
