Actually guys. Most of the people volunteering and running the shelters
wouldn't qualify. In fact when I volunteeref at the humane society in
Shelby county it was well understood that a "good home" isn't always a
"qualified home". The shelter director usually has final say in the matter
(and our director most often wanted (1) fenced yard, (2) a vet in
case.something happened and not trying at the last minute in the middle of
an emergency to find one (3) what happened to your last pet (although there
was no way to really tell). (4) Can you afford to feed it. She often sent
qualified aussies and border collies to horse/cattle/dairy farms who
untilized them. She also placed a border collie mix to a young man who
lived in an apt who ran marathons. The dog became his running buddy and you
still see them out jogging to this day. Not saying all shelters are like
this, but most directors take a much more "realistic" and workable
approach.
