I know bloat is a major concern in the breed, but I don't want to over react. My dog has been hacking up mucus or phlem (sp?) since he ate tonight. I know an early sign of bloat is unproductive vomiting, but I swear he sounds more like he's coughing. Anyhow, it's after vet hours now, and he doesn't seem to be exhibiting any other bloat like symptoms. Should I still run him in, or is it safe to watch him? To note, he's not acting uncomfortable or pacing, and I put him in his crate to make him rest and he seems relaxed. Stomach does not seem distended. Help would be grea tly appreciated. Does he have a temperature? Is it possible he has an upper respiratory infection? Has he drank since he ate? Is he uncomfortable when he palpate his gut? Try a little pressure also on the right side mid loin and see if he reacts...that is the area of the spleen. If you can answer yes to most, go to the vet.
