There is usually a bidding book (or if it's really casual a piece of paper),
in front of every item, or in the case of large items (car, spa day trip)
pictures and/or a description. You place your number in one column and your
bid in the one next to it (or in case it's real casual, and numbers aren't
assigned, you just put your name). Somebody else comes along and writes in a
higher bid. The auction closes at a set time. These are a hoot...for really
"hot" items right before the auction closes you see folks diving over one
another to be the last bid:)))))))
