Outcrossing is great, valuable, esp phenotype to phenotype..but just as with any unknown pairing of genes (which is what outcrossing is, pairing of genes for an unknown, albeit "fresh" influence or outcome) you MAY get the type you want or you may not. Remember it isn't necessarily what mom, dad or grandparents bring to the genetic table it is often genetic pairings many, many generations prior. Type to type sounds good, in theory, but often fails because of the influence of so many other genetic presences. It is at least a place to start.
