I have done enough American to German breeding's to know that what you get are
puppies :0) I have managed to finish a few. Some are police dogs some are
therapy dogs. One is a top agility performer one is a herding champion. Many
are great foot warmers. I don't think I have ever produced a roach back. The
main thing is that they all seem to have more leg than we are used to seeing.

The problem I have noticed is that you can find in Germany a beautiful
animal that looks just like the top winning American style dog. You watch the
movement, and you love the front extension, the rear drive, the hard level
back and the feminine head. You contact the breeder and bring the bitch to
America.
You breed this fantastic bitch to your great male. In the litter you get
the genitics of the bitch and the male. From the bitch you get the roached
back, short neck, restricted front and limited rear that are in her
background, and then you realize she was a different style from what the
Germans
have bred for years.
If you select for phenotype, you can't expect to get genotype.
Breed to what you know, not so much what you see. I do know some of the
German breeders are pleased to sell us the American style dogs they get in
their litter. They are animals that get low ratings at the VA shows. Those
animals do not do well in Germany, but look great for what we want. But,
the genes they carry will be what determines what they produce.
Two young Jewish children are born. When the girl turns 16 as a gift, her
parents pay for a nose job for her, and she is beautiful.
The young man decides to have his nose done before he goes off to college,
and it works out so well, he looks fantastic.
They meet, fall in love and get married.
They have a child with a nose like a macaw.
That is an old David Steinberg joke. And, I doubt anyone remembers David.
But, I think of it every time I try to plan a breeding. I just leave it
up to Tedi.
