[ SHOWGSD-L ] Letters, we get letters!!

I have to say that showing Harley over the past 1.5 years has been quite an
experience. One of the neatest things is chatting with the public, especially
people curious about the GSD or wanting one.
For instance, this past weekend in Las Vegas, when Harley was in the Group
ring, I heard a lady with another breed, commenting to her fellow exhibitor, on
the GSD sloping topline and questioning it's reason. After Harley's individual
exam was completed, I walked back over to her and explained. She thanked me
and said she had never thought of it the way I explained. I thanked her for
her interest in our breed.
One thing I find fascinating is that many people, including vets, seem to
equate the sloping topline and rear angulation to hip dysplasia. I love to lay
the little statistic on them that the squarer dogs, like St Bernards, actually
have a much higher incidence of hip dysplasia than our breed!
Today's mail contained a letter from a man in Las Vegas. He enclosed the page
from the catalog where Harley's name was listed. He explained that he and his
wife attended the show because they are "looking to adopt a young GSD" and were
"so impressed" with my dog. He wanted to know if I would sell him a puppy like
Harley!
These types of encounters always leave me feeling so good about what Harley and
I have done. There are so many aspects to this sport, eh?
