The big difference when flying a Golden ( and many other large Breeds )
compared to a GSD is the EARS!.
You talk to the guys in Cargo....and if the ears were DOWN on our dogs there
would be no problem with
flying them in a 400 and 500 crate. The tip of the ears touching the top of
the crate IS the problem!!
They insist you make the dog STAND in the crate...and you put the higher longer
neck on a GSD than what we
see on a Golden or Rottie...and add the 4 - 6 inches for ears.......and
HOUSTON..WE HAVE A PROBLEM!! <G>
It is that simple.......!!
For those that say they "have always had to travel to a National and never
whined or griped about it but happily
traveled to every National".......remember....it always rotated
somewhere....then went back to Macon, Ga. for a while.
No one complained because THEN you could fly into Atlanta with a dog on Delta
for 'cargo' prices. Now....flying a
dog is almost not even an option for many of us anymore.
Possibly if it was in Portland, Ore., and then set for Utah for 3 years.....and
then...( in a closed session )... set for
Utah again for 3 more years....it would cause a few 'rumbles' in the East!
Similar to Pennsylvania, then St. Louis
for 3 years.......and now we're told St. Louis again for at least 2 more years
or more.
At least Utah or Colorado is a subsidiary Airport for Delta and United....or at
least it is THIS week...<G>

Great post Peg! I was supposed to be at a BBQ contest today but my ulcer has
been acting up! So we skipped it! Wonder what the Goldens are paying for
Placerville , the conformation is outside, perhaps we need to consider going
back outside, yeah inside is better.... The board knows sooner or later the
talk will end and everyone will accept the National being in St Louis next year
and the 29 years after that! and there is nothing we can do about it! That's

Take the time to look at a map. If Colorado is considered West Coast zone, then
Missouri would be considered East Coast zone--especially St. Louis which is on
the border of Illinois.
When I lived in Virginia, I could drive to dozens of shows in many statesafter
work on Friday. If I still lived in Virginia, I would be thrilled tohave the
National in St. Louis (a 13-hour drive from Fredericksburg (DCarea)--Mapquest).
But, it took me 3 days to get to the Colorado show (a 21-hourdrive--Mapquest)
from San Francisco and 4 days to get to St. Louis (a33-hour dive--Mapquest).
The states are much bigger in the West.
It kills me not to be able to go to the National, but I just don't think Ican
make it anymore.
Since Zoe slams me every time I bring up this subject, I am sitting herewith my
flak jacket on. But, I have an open mind. If the Board has references
other than the U. S. Map and Mapquest to dispute my figures, I am willing to
listen. If not, then the Board should just admit that they are ignoring the
vote of the membership and being unfair to the West Coast members and try a
little harder to find a show location West of the Rockies.That is a huge area.
It's hard to believe that there is nothing available for a reasonable price.
