Leslie Lynn Dancosse
Leslie Lynn Dancosse, 56, died suddenly at home in Farmingville, NY on
March 13, 2018. Leslie was born in Willimantic, CT on May 27, 1961 to Henry
and Sandra Dancosse. Her family moved to Saxton’s River, VT in 1974. She
graduated from Bellows Falls Union High School in 1979.
Leslie was an accomplished professional dog handler and breeder. She
started in the business of showing German Shepherds while still in High
School under the guidance of her parents. They apparently taught her well
as she soon became one of the top breeders and handlers in the German
Shepherd world. She was a regular exhibitor at the annual Westminster
Kennel Club Dog Show held at Madison Square Garden in New York city. At the
time of her death she co-owned and operated MARDAN German Shepherds
in Farmingville, NY with her partner Sue Condreras. Leslie was well
respected by her peers and the American Kennel Club, (AKC), for her
contributions to the German Shepherd breed, as well as to the dog community
as well.
Leslie had a passion for all the young handlers who represented the future
of the GSD community. She never hesitated to reach out to mentor these
young handlers to help mold them into strong, capable, accomplished young
adults. She herself, never forgot what it was like to be a young girl in
the big ring and got most of her joy out of helping others become great
handlers.
In 2015, Leslie received the coveted Lamar Kuhns award, which recognizes
outstanding presentation and grooming of dogs and creating of good will for
German Shepherd Dogs.
Leslie is survived by her partner Sue Condreras of Farmingville, NY, her
mother Sandra J. Dancosse of Bellows Falls, VT, her brother David Dancosse
and wife Michele of North Westminster, VT, her niece Trista Lynn Brown and
husband Matt of Saxtons River, VT. She was pre-deceased by her father Henry
J. Dancosse and grandmother Myrtle “Cookie” Chappell affectionately known
as “Grammy Mar”.
A celebration of Leslie’s life will be held on March 24, 2018 at Forrester
Maher Funeral Home 998 Portion Rd Ronkonkoma, NY 11779 from 3 – 7.
Refreshments will be served. Feel free to bring pictures to put on picture
boards for all to see.
