Hi Paula
 
I'm curious, did you loose a dog due to a Lepto shot?  Good friends of mine 
had 2 of their dogs get lepto, one died and one survived but had to be 
quarantied for quite some time so he would not get the others infected with his 
urine.  The dog that died was misdiagnosed and not treated with the proper 
medication.  He contracted lepto at a dog show.  Since he was not diagnosed 
correctly, he was not removed from the other dogs and thus infected one more 
dog.
 
Due to that incident, we did quite a bit of research and were told by two vets 
that the lepto vaccine does make some dogs sick but were not aware of any 
deaths.  If one lives in the country or goes to a lot of shows, I think the 
lepto is a valid vaccine to give.

This has probably been discussed before, but I have been set to no-mail until 
recently.
My sister in law called me from CO and she had her dachshunds in for their 
annual check-ups. Her vet wanted to do the lepto shot for both dogs and then 
have her come back for the booster 2 weeks late. She called me for my opinion 
on whether she should have this done. I told her I would ask the list. I don't 
do vaccines for my dogs other than the required rabies, so I don't know what to 
tell her. Any help would be appreciated.
