I know in the literature that I read that many Border Collie fanciers felt the same way when they got AKC recognition, and still do from what I understand. They're worried people will start breeding for looks instead of abilities and breeding for a fast buck. I think there's still a huge rift within the breed today of fanciers for AKC vs. against. Same with Jack Russell Terriers. That is why there are also Parson Terriers. They were all the same, but some did not want to be an AKC breed.
