The other evening I made a suggestion that judges meet certain criteria for
judging the National..my intent was tongue in cheek..basically meaning that if
the ax was going to swing and more rules were going to be made..lets just make
more rules for everyone. Judging expertise..like being a good breeder is hard
to sum up into words.it is unexplainable..I don't believe it can be
taught..some have it..others don't. it is an art..To be able to judge other
dogs and find the good ones, consistently is something to be admired...Some
judges have not bred as much..but have a great eye for movement and overall
type..some on the other hand..have had stellar breeding programs..but can't
seem to be able to evaluate other dogs as successfully nonetheless, whether you
think a judge has a good eye..or not..it is still a subjective sport...and open
to opinion.I have hesitated in getting my license because even though I can
evaluate my own dogs pretty well..I think it is an awesome responsibil
ity to be able to evaluate many dogs from different lines successfully. I
didn't get any hate mail for my post..but after sleeping on it..and then
getting one post from someone who knew I was jesting..but wasn't sure others
did..I felt it best to clarify my statement. believe me when I say..I did not
mean to disrespect anyone..and I would vote for..and show to any judge who I
felt had a good eye.and knowledge about our breed. C.Grainger
