I certainly would hate to think that anyone is evil enough to poison a dog. Here is a true story: I was showing a very sound bitch who had done some nice winning as a puppy and in the 12-18. She loved showing. Her temperament was stellar. At a large outdoor specialty (baseball field) she was awarded WB and finished. When I took her back in for Breed she started to act very strange. Wild eyed, panting, anxious. Temperature was high. Gums warm. Her owner and I both thought bee sting, allergic reaction, drugs or poison. The judge was kind enough to let me stay under the tent with her. Rushed her to the vet- She came around to normal after many hours and her temperature dropped back down. About a month later, the owner brought her to a horse park to do some photos with other dog friends. Just a casual get together.  Suddenly, she again had the same signs/symptoms. Rushed to a vet again. No conclusion could be made. The only thing the vets could figure was perhaps fertilizer on the ground or some reaction from something on the grass. She only had this reaction these two times. I share this to maybe shed light on possibilities. Perhaps the sod was sprayed the night before and Kobe had an allergic reaction. Was he showing signs prior to judging? If someone gave him something while in the van the night before; surely this would have shown up prior to his entering the ring/judging Saturday afternoon. Again, I sure hope no one is low enough to poison or drug a dog. In the same venue, we cant jump to conclusions and perhaps my experience will shed light. ----- Original Message ----- From: InquestGSD@xxxxxxx To: showgsd-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, October 19, 2010 11:11:19 AM Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: Kobe's National Ileana: are you saying he wasn't poisoned? **************************************************************************** ********* OH, on the contrary,  I know first hand Kobe was very ill as I  was right next to him and Ann and he wasn't acting right. This was later on  Saturday evening. And it appears, according to the vets, that he was  poisoned.  I wasn't worry about the temp, normal temp on a dog is 102.5, and as he was  hyperventilating, he could've gotten an elevated temp that way. Amphetamines,  caffeine, and other substances could also raise the temp.  Those could be  identified with a tox panel, hopefully the vets saved enough blood to screen for  those. I told Ann that I  was surprised, actually shocked, that the vets  didn't keep Kobe and put him on an IV to flush his system. That's why I gave Ann  a bottle of Pedialyte, I felt very strong that he needed to be hydrated, and  told Ann so. By this time one of our dogs was sick with very lose stools.  What I am saying is it may not have been a malicious, intentional  thing.  Some of us picked up pills, they appeared to be vitamins  capsules, right there on ringside, mixed on the hay, while standing around  waiting with dogs to go in the ring. I about freaked out and spent a  good amount of time sifting thru the shavings making sure it was clean.  This was on Saturday.  This wasn't a sterile environment, it never is when it comes to horse  stalls, but these stalls were particularly dirty. That was one of the 2  suggestions I had for improvement.  All I am saying is everyone STOP with the finger pointing nowhere, until  Ann and Kathy confirm with the vets that we have a psycho amongst us.  This  could've really been an accident. God, I hope so, I hate to think we are  surrounded by people who will stoop this low.  I think what Ann, Kathy and Kobe needs is good thoughts and  positive energy going their way, not more negativity.  * Ileana  * Inquest GSD's, Home of : Sel Excellent AM CH & Sel CAN CH Karizma's  Cacique of Inquest TC, aka DEXTER ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2010.  All material remains the property of the original author and of GSD Communication, Inc.
