Dogs being slipped drugs by a competitor in the dog show world is not new.
But,
it is sad that someone has to resort to that. Makes you wonder what they do to
their own dogs. I saw it happen a few times, back in the 80's, when I was
involved with Labs. Speed (amphetemine) Easy to drop into water or in a
treat. Show dogs love bait and expect everyone to have treats. They don't
think twice about accepting treats from people. The dog would get hyper and
unable to focus. One of the dogs in question, was the sire of my girls. He
was
a sound as they come and had numerous performance titles. At the Nationals in
Indiana, in 1981, he lost it. He not only bombed in conformation, he failed
his
field trial.
I don't know Kobe but I knew this dog very well. He was an awesome dog. I was
a Reserve Sheriff's Deputy at the time and asked that the dog be tested for
drugs. He was and they found Speed in his system. Back then, there was no
investigation by police or anything. The vet lab conducted the test and it was
positive but nobody cared.
This is not a new thing and unfortunately, some people will do whatever it
takes
to eliminate the competition. To try to pawn it off on something the dog may
have picked up is almost riduculous. Loose stools ot lethargy is one thing,
personality behaviors is suspect.
NO, it's not time to move on from this issue. Sweeping it under the carpet
only
gives newbies and folks like me a very good reason never to show or attend a
National again.

I agree with what you said Linda totally, people are quick to jump to
onclusions, I just can't imagine that someone in the dog world would do such a
hing, call me naive but to intentionally harm a dog I just can't imagine anyone
here would do something like that. I think it was something else that
nfortunately happened. Like you said Linda a reaction to something ???

certainly would hate to think that anyone is evil enough to poison a dog.
Here is a true story:
I was showing a very sound bitch who had done some nice winning as a puppy and
the 12-18. She loved showing. Her temperament was stellar.
At a large outdoor specialty (baseball field) she was awarded WB and finished.
en I took her back in for Breed she started to act very strange. Wild eyed,
nting, anxious. Temperature was high. Gums warm. Her owner and I both thought
e sting, allergic reaction, drugs or poison. The judge was kind enough to let
stay under the tent with her. Rushed her to the vet- She came around to
rmal after many hours and her temperature dropped back down.
About a month later, the owner brought her to a horse park to do some photos
th other dog friends. Just a casual get together. Suddenly, she again had the
me signs/symptoms. Rushed to a vet again.
No conclusion could be made. The only thing the vets could figure was perhaps
rtilizer on the ground or some reaction from something on the grass. She only
d this reaction these two times.
I share this to maybe shed light on possibilities. Perhaps the sod was sprayed
e night before and Kobe had an allergic reaction. Was he showing signs prior
judging? If someone gave him something while in the van the night before;
rely this would have shown up prior to his entering the ring/judging Saturday

Again, I sure hope no one is low enough to poison or drug a dog. In the same
nue, we cant jump to conclusions and perhaps my experience will shed light.
