Responsible Pet Owners Alliance is an animal welfare organization,
not "animal rights" and, yes, there is a difference.

Two messages below for the Austin area.

The Texas Federation of Humane Societies has established a "Pet
Friendly" area at the evacuee center in Austin. We are in the back of
the Burger Center which is off 290 west going toward Johnson City.
Take the Brodie exit and follow the signs that the Red Cross has on the
feeder roads.

At present we will take the family pets that accompany people who will
be housed at Burger Center. We may be able to expand and take in animals
from other areas but for now our concentration is to keep people and
pets in close proximity so the owners can visit the pets and provide
(hopefully) a therapeutic effect for both. We have plenty of food,
crates etc. for right now and we have tents and swamp coolers arriving
today.
