[ SHOWGSD-L ] Kaitlyn update.....

Hi Guys
I am gearing up to go back out to the hospital, but first, let me thank EACH
OF YOU for your
well wishes for Kaitlyn.   It may be a few days before I can get to your
emails.
The surgery to repair Kaitlyn's obliterated femur , was much more difficult,
and twice as long as
anyone, even her doctor expected.  They basically cut and drilled the entire
length of the femur, from hip to knee,
and removed the old bent rod, replacing it with a new one..from hip to knee.
There was considerable blood loss , about 10 units,  which is a lot for such
a teeny person.
When they tried to take the breathing tube out of her throat, she quit
breathing.
So they re intubated her, and she is now on a ventilator.    She remains in
ICU, and they
have her heavily sedated and restrained to she doesn't become combative and
try to pull out the tube.
She was able to nod her head to questions a couple of times last night, but
of course is pretty out of it.
She will receive blood today, and has a feeding tube in place so they can
try to build her up.
I am on my way this morning...
