Hi everyone, Sheila Metz from Lindenhill GSD writing my once every two
year post. My husband tells me there are many newcomers to this list,
and that is great. I urge them to read the July issue of the Review
cover to cover. I am not a big fan of the Review as being all-volunteer
the content leaves much to be desired, but thank God we have a magazine
at all. At any rate, the interviews with Ann Schultz and Sandy Anderson
are must reads for every person even thinking about starting a breeding
program, or for that matter people like ourselves who are entering their
30th year in the breed and need a refresher to remind ourselves why we
devote every dime and hour to our beloved dogs.
These two women have shared vast amounts of information with the fancy
in this piece;things that take us years to learn in the breed by trial
and error, heartbreak and success. For every person who whines about
buying a 13 week old puppy that fails to turn into a U.S. select animal,
or develops a health problem, read the interviews.
Also, there is a great article on DM. Sure enough, the "original"
research describing the condition was false all along. Beware, those who
KNOW how and where a health problem comes from. If we did, this would be
an easy game.
Kudos to Linda Kury and my friend Sharon Todoroff for assisting in the
Legacy program--none of us are getting any younger--and we all need a
plan for our dogs.
Finally, a big thank you to my friend Chris Carter for the back breaking
work of compiling the ROM males. This job is a full time horror story,
complete with people calling her to make sure their dogs point totals
are correct. See all the dogs on this list? That is a lot of phone calls
to take when she is trying to take care of her own kennel family.
It is easy to get on this list and opine. It is hard to take care of
your own doggie family and write these articles, do the research, and
help educate the fancy.
I will write again in a couple years, be well all of you!
P.S. No diss to Susan Casey and the Review. I am a retired writer and I
know how hard it is to churn this out every month for all of us.
