It seems that the specialty ring is going the way of the all breed ring.   And
we wonder why we are losing fronts.  On the positive side...at least the
winning dogs are pretty in their mediocrity.

I guess it all depends, as Terry pointed out on "how roachy". I see
it as
leading to shortened stride, less ground covered, perhaps even quick-stepping.

I've see dogs who are roached as having a problem w/ transmission.

"Their" herding dogs actually resemble our all breed show dogs
(I'm limiting
this to backs), rather than the extreme roach found on some of their SCH
dogs, where for a while they seemed to be more concerned w/ a dog's ability
 to
scale obstacles and take a man down that ground covering gait.

As I type I'm recalling some of the imports Wynn had as little as 6-7 years

ago that came from herding stock who would have no trouble being competitive
in the AB ring.

Well, who knows since it's a hypothetical dog, but....if that's the
way
you
see it.

I, on the other hand, visualize a roach interfering w/ transmission which
translates to a fault of gait, which I'm sure you'd agree is a
"very serious"
fault.

A roach or weak back is not a serious fault...and in fact a roach back is
just a compensation for lack of angulation IMO.
