In response to what Kathy wrote below.... I never do touch the mouth.
However, if the handler is unable to show the dogs teeth or has a thumb over a
large part of gum, then we may need to poke around. I ALWAYS request that the
Club have disinfectant HandiWipes on the table and about one out of three
remember to get them. Not only do I like to use these wipes should I handle a
mouth, but I also like to use them after "checking the boy's" Perhaps now we
can make it a requirement to have some form of disinfectant and towels or
wipes on hand at all shows. It would be wonderful if all handlers would open
the dogs mouths wide so that we can just "look" in. It would also be
wonderful if all the dogs had clean teeth. It is amazing when you judge a dog
that is still damp from his bath but the teeth are dark brown.
Get a dental scraper, it is so easy to clean teeth.
I will bring my own cleaning supplies from now on and I'll probably forget my
purse!

I think for anyone showing dogs, handlers in particular are going to have to
INSIST that judges PLEASE NOTt put their hands in or dogs mouths. Going
from dog to dog is NOT a good idea anyway, particularly now. Most judges are
already pretty good about it, but some..... What do you think judges out
there,
can we come to an agreement on that?
