So- where are the club's committee want ads?
I have held a variety of positions, both elected and appointed, in national
clubs as well as a national rescue. I have experience & know-how already; I am
familiar with many of the performance rings (all but tracking & agility) as
well as conformation ( both AKC and UKC formats), along with having hosted
(mostly secretaried as thats the time consuming full of numbers & paperwork and
the job noone wants to do!) many events and all-breed and specialty dog shows,
including nationals, plus even having done database work and webpage design,
plus creating a longevity award (similar to the 13 Club) to investigate
longevity in the white/white carrier lines-for the WSGP-- an important trait I
look for in my breedings... And found longevity runs in families. Yay
Most importantly, I HAVE THE TIME TO DEVOTE TO OUR DOGS, BREED & THE CLUB! I
am disabled from a bad accident over 14 years ago and had to give up my trade
(I was in the construction division of the Teamsters local 786 Chicago then 179
Will county as well as the union representation to my company and my teamster
brothers) and start collecting my disability pension after I tried working
again post accident n just couldn't cut it physically. Concrete chutes weigh
40# a piece! Heck of a way to retire at 29... Oh wait that's right I'm only 28
still! ;) but that is the reason I started to have more time for my dogs &
activities... it used to be the occasional litter in the winter (as I'd be laid
off and at home) and obedience trials to pretty much was it. Because of my
dogs, though I haven't had a vacation dog free since I was 25, I have travelled
from Cape Cod to Kansas and from Canada to Boca Raton (near Miami) showing my
dogs in various sports. I have met and become friends
with many I have met along the way- I can honestly say I might talk to 2 or 3
non dog people in the world. All these benefits plus I doubt I would have
gotten out of my wheelchair and gone back to dog handling had it not been for
my ever eager GSDs sitting there in front of me saying how boring I was and
they wanted to play chuck-it and go rollerblading... Though my life turned
upside down then, today (well except for seizures and chronic pain and regular
surgery to keep going) I have a rich full contented life mostly because of my
dogs and the joys and sorrows they have shared with me. In my humblest of
opinions, if more people took lessons from their dogs, the world would be a
better place! (And surely why all my friends are dog people! And people
wouldn't fault another for direct absolute honesty either if everyone was as
honest as our dogs...)
Though I'm not a "lifer" in the club (all my years of membership combined are
probably10), I am a lifer in the GSD; I was born into a houseful of GSDs and
wouldn't have changed a thing! (Especially that my grandmother also showed/
bred dogs as well, I was inculcated with the love of the sport and breeding)
So, here I sit today, wishing for something to fill up a bit of my time- my
current dog related projects are not time consuming enough nor demanding enough
to fill my volunteer-time!
Please someone direct me to the right people who need workers or reply
yourself! I'm willing (and mostly knowledgeable enough) to tackle just about
any project thrown my way.
I apologise to those who think this isn't an appropriate email, but I thought
this would be the best way to "advertise" that there is a very willing worker
to share their knowledge and put their efforts into maintaining this club, and
therefore protecting & preserving this breed.
