OK. Here's a challenge for everyone. Let's put down what we think a board
member gets out of his service?
Maybe a free trip to an exotic location to sit in a meeting room for two days
is your idea of fun.
Or for my submission, the joy of hotel food at a cost over what is allowed.
Also, the fun of sharing a room with someone who snores all night and who you
aren't married to.
What about the fun of being told to shut up by other board members, or being
shut down by the President when he decides he has heard enough.
And the great joy of having charges brought against you in closed sessions,
and having to defend yourself without the members even knowing you are being
charged.
You get criticized for what the board does or does not do, even if you voted
against it. What a wonderful experience that is.
Then you get to pay for parking at the airport, often miss your flight and
spend the night on a nice soft oak bench.
You get out of your house, leave your spouse, and not eat what you normally
do. Maybe that is a good perk.
All of those joys are perks of a board member. What are your thoughts as to
the advantages. And maybe you can throw in why people like myself, Dave
Rinke, or Paul laugh each time you suggest we run again.
