I always found it interesting when I go to an all-breed show, how many
people come over to watch the shepherds. I don't see that as much in the
other rings.
This is a popular breed, it is loved by many, and owned by a few. Even less
of shepherd owners show in conformation. The answer is simple.
We went to a series of weekend shows last year. We traveled out of town
to go there. We entered three dogs. That is $75.00 for entry fee, (I think
it was $25.00 a dog), for each dog, in three shows. It might have been
more, but Tedi tries not to tell me what it costs. Entries were $225.00 just
for entries.
Then there was motel costs of $125.00 a night, for three nights, for
ourselves and our handler. That was $375.00.
Gas was three tanks each way, at about $60.00 a tank for a total of
$360.00.
Meals, well, we ate a McDonald's and the motel had breakfast, so it
probably was less than $200.00.
I don't even want to add that up. But, it seems clear to me why the entries
are down. That is without handler fees, and never mind the extras like
lost time at work, or incidentals.
