I would say that Tennie has excellent instincts and her reaction to the man at
the
door was a warning for you.
When I was a teenager we had a GSD that was very sound & accepting of everyone.
There were only two times he reacted in a negative manner to someone at the
door &
both times he was "spot on"!

I totally agree, Jim. Just this morning, my GSD greeted a couple
young girls at the door and was ready to go home with them. A couple
of hours later, a man came to the door, and while have NEVER heard
Tennie growl before, she gave one that I could barely hear and her
hackles barely went up. This is a dog that probably could qualify for
that "golden" personality. She loves everybody, but I guess not quite.
