I remember Carolyn having said this all along, she practically pounded it
into our heads. But some just did not listen. Here we are faced with
exorbitant fares for the dogs as well as many grueling hours of traveling
time for them and us. I would just rather have a less perfect show site but
close to a major hub unless it would be close enough for driving. This would
be less stressful for the dogs, too.
I did not go last year because I was whelping a litter, and this year it is
just too far. Utah seems close to perfect for us Arizonans and I'm sure most
of us will be there next year.

I'm sure you had a great time without a dog last year.......it sure is
easier isn't it. But of course the National
would soon lose it's appeal for most of us if there are no great dogs
there........<G>
I guess we could just call it a 'German Shepherd Dog Convention' and then
we could just visit old friends
and stay in lovely Hotels and eat at lovely Restaurants in the evening.
But those of us with dogs can't do that.
Even if the sites are lovely and in a locale it's never been before.....and
someone who's never been before
could attend........it just won't be the same without the doggies. <G>
I know it just complicates things....but when we think of locations......we
need to think of the dogs getting there.

That would make it easy for me. I wouldn't go to the national with dogs,
three out of the five years. I am to the
point where it seem it is going to take $800 to ship a dog to the national,
and if it is going to take ten hours
to get there, between the flight and drive, I am unwilling to put my dogs
through that.
I find I am less willing to do this to my dogs than I used to be, and can
enjoy a national without dogs, just fine.
Maybe we need to realize that we can't put dogs on a two step flight, with
an hour to the airport, and three
hour drive to the show.
I didn't take a dog last year, and loved it. I didn't worry about who made
the flight and how my dog was treated.
We need to think of the dogs again, not just the locations. Evan Ginsburg
